How to keep your duvet clean

There’s no better feeling than climbing into bed with freshly cleaned sheets – but what about making sure your duvet is clean too? Duvets should be washed at least every six months and replaced every five years as they collect dust, dirt, dead skin cells and dust mites over time.

A test carried out on 10 duvets at the University of Worcester found that they held up to 20,000 live house dust mites – a shocking statistic that’s sure to encourage you to give your duvet a good clean more regularly!

Despite the amount of dirt that is collected in your duvet, many people still don’t give them a good clean on a regular basis, so we thought we’d share some tips with you on how to keep your duvet clean.

If you’re washing a single duvet, you can pop it in the washing machine using a small amount of mild laundry detergent and put it on a gentle, cool wash (we do recommend you check the care label for washing instructions beforehand).

You’ll find it a struggle to fit a duvet cover larger than a single into a standard home washing machine, so your best bet is to send it to the launderettes to be cleaned. You won’t have to do any of the dirty work and you’ll be able to rest more easily at night knowing that your duvet is clean, fresh and free of dirt and dust mites.
