Don’t worry, changing your winter bedding to summer bedding is simple and only takes a couple of steps. The first thing you need to switch is your duvet. When you’re buying your new duvet, you need to select a low tog rating for summer. Over the winter months, you’ll need a duvet with a tog rating of 13.5 or 15.0 to keep you nice and toasty, but in the summer, opt for a duvet with a tog rating of 4.5. This is a very light quilt which will keep you at a nice temperature on summer nights.
The next thing you need to change is your bed linen. Opting for jersey sheets is a great idea … the fabric is soft, stretchy and breathable so will help to keep you cool on warm summer nights. The texture is fairly similar to that of a t-shirt so it’s nice and comfortable. The material was first manufactured on the Island of Jersey … hence the name!
Another great option for summer bed linen is Terry towelling, which is most commonly used to make bath towels, but will be nice and soft on your skin throughout the night. The fabric is really breathable so draws moisture away from your skin and helps to keep you comfortable and allows you to have a good night’s sleep.
Our final suggested alternative is Egyptian cotton or 100% cotton sheets. These luxurious sheets feel really high quality and the pure cotton is much softer than a polyester and cotton blend. This material helps to keep you much cooler throughout the night too and you’re bound to have a great night’s sleep.
