A lot of our customers turn to us to ask questions about their curtains, we thought we’d put together a blog post to answer the most common questions we get asked. If you have any other curtain-related questions, please do get in touch over on Facebook or Twitter and we’ll be happy to help.

How do you attach blackout curtain linings to curtains?

Step 1 Find a flat surface and lay the curtain face down. Place the lining on top of the curtain the correct side up.

Step 2 When using standard curtain hooks, insert the hook into lining tape and then curtain tape, select the right hook position for the curtain pole or track.

Step 3 Pull curtain hook towards you so the downward arm of the hook lies over the face side of the lining.

Step 4 If curtain track is fitted with hook gliders, attach them to appropriate hook position on curtain tape. Then, insert a standard curtain hook into lining tape, pull through the ring at the foot of the hook glider, so downward arm of the curtain hook lies over face side of the lining.

Step 5 Unpick the cords at one end of both curtain and lining and knot securely.  Unpick the cord at the opposite end, evenly gather the tape until the required curtain width is reached.  Surplus cord should be tied closely to the edges of the tape to hold the curtain in position.  Tie a loop that can be easily undone when cleaning.

How do you hang curtains?

We’ve written a full guide over on our website that explains how you can hang pencil pleat curtains and pinch pleat curtains. You can read it here.

Top tip: You may wish to press out any creases in curtains before you hang them, however they will drop out over time. Read any instructions before using an iron on the curtains you’ve ordered as some materials don’t react well to heat.

How do you choose the right curtain style?

Choosing a pair of curtains can be a daunting task. There are lots of different styles available and making sure you pick the right curtains for your home is important. They can be a focal point in a room so finding the right design is essential.

Before you start searching for your curtains, decide what you want to achieve with these curtains. You may want to go for a vibrant colour to make them pop and stand out or it could be that you’re sticking to a theme like a beach vibe. Think practically too, do you want heavy curtains for a glamorous look and do you want them to be blackout curtains if you watch a lot of films.

Once you’ve decided what style you’d like, pick the fabric and colour that matches your décor – keeping in mind brightness, texture and what sort of look they’ll create in your home. Happy shopping!
